Complete the fields below and I will contact you, because parenting isn't supposed to be this hard.
A parent is a child’s first and life-long teacher. Just like teachers go through teacher-training programs, parents benefit from parent education. When I am observing a family, I look for “teachable moments,” which are opportunities for the parent-as-teacher to give instruction. I explain, model, and show parents strategies that teach to the needs and values of the family.
Families come in many forms and structures. It is important for me to visit (in-person or online) each familiy individually so as to understand the unique dynamics and challenges and adapt the strategies accordingly. I work with families that have young children; toddlers through elementary school age.
Parents need someone they can just call to ask. There is worry and uncertainty inherent in parenting. It can be stressful, frustrating, and exhausting. When you engage me, I help you understand what is happening and teach you strategies that you can use over and over again. I will be the person you can call when you want to feel calm, confident and in control.
That is not necessarily how it works. In the words of Dr. Jodi Pawlusky, Neuroscientist and Therapist, “There is a drive to learn to parent, but there is no switch that turns on and parents know what to do. Everybody has to learn to parent.” Clinical Psychiatrist and author, Dr. Dan Siegel agrees and says, “Parenting is the hardest thing in the world.”
Parents need education and support. That is what I give.
